UART BAUD RATE GENERATION

Hello ALL,
i have a basic doubt in UART lpc series
in the below formula
baudrate = Pclk/16*(256*UDLM+UDLL)
why he is multiplying 256*UDLM
is there any special reason.

by multiplying by 256.. he is actually shifting it 8 bits..
265 * UDLM + UDLL is same as (UDLM << 8) | UDLL
265 * UDLM + UDLL is same as (UDLM << 8) | UDLL
